In the final standoff between George and the Dragon the moments of the fights are portrayed simultaneously. The George figure becomes multiple knights riding in with lances ready, the dragon, now a fire breathing enormously enlarged beast is being defeated. It is the last dragon so victory means extinction. In the smoke of the battle the shield of George becomes the motif of the lances clashing, creating a four way division of the space.
