Narcissus

Narcissus, a youth of striking beauty, rejects all who love him. As punishment, he is drawn to a pool where he sees his own reflection and becomes entranced, not realising it is himself. Unable to leave, he wastes away, consumed by unattainable desire. In death, he transforms into the narcissus flower. His story endures as a warning against vanity, self-obsession, and the peril of loving only one’s own image.

He kneels at the still water, not for love— but for longing, or the echo of it.
Beneath him, lilies float. Above, desire wilts.
