Lucifer, the most beautiful and once the brightest of angels, fell from heaven through pride. Refusing to serve, he exalted himself above God and was cast from heaven in a thunderous descent. His beauty darkened, his light turned inward, becoming rebellion. His fall remains a paradox: the ruin of perfection, and the terrible splendour of a will that chose its own undoing. The painting depicts the moment of his arrival on the firmament his wings one last time burning bright before their turning. On the cusp of his inherent grace she yields in the quiet before knowing, held between trust and the first shadow of his devilish desires.
Fallen, but not yet dark.
Trust, or the first surrender.
Grace hesitates on the edge of desire.
