Adonis & Aphrodite

Aphrodite falls deeply in love with Adonis, a mortal of extraordinary beauty. She warns him to avoid dangerous beasts, but he is drawn to the hunt. While pursuing a wild boar, he is fatally wounded. Hearing his cries, Aphrodite rushes to him, but arrives too late. Grieving, she transforms his blood into the anemone flower, a fragile bloom symbolising beauty, desire, and the fleeting nature of life and love. Here, he hides his wounds but is resigned and rueful of her leaving. 

Anemones bloom in the heat they shed.
Eight blissed months, and now, the dark return.
She leaves, and he remembers.
